My Op-Ed in The NY Times: What My Father's Ashes Taught Me About Letting Go

Back in January, I was honored to write an essay for the New York Times about something I'd been avoiding for three years: my father's ashes, sitting untouched in a FedEx box on my closet shelf. As a priest and trauma theologian, I've helped countless families lay loved ones to rest—but when it came to my own father, grief looked less like ritual and more like paralysis.
